“Be virtuous and pure; be men of integrity and truth; keep the commandments of God; and then you will be able more perfectly to understand the difference between right and wrongâ€â€between the things of God and the things of men; and your path will be like that of the just, which shineth brighter and brighter unto the perfect day.”Joseph Smith Jr. History of The Church, 5:31
“Indolence is a delightful but distressing state; we must be doing something to be happy. Action is no less necessary than thought to the instinctive tendencies of the human frame.”Mahatma Gandhi
“[President Smith] continued to read the chapter [1 Corinthians 12], and give instructions respecting the different offices, and the necessity of every individual acting in the sphere allotted him or her, and filling the several offices to which they are appointed. He spoke of the disposition of many men to consider the lower offices in the Church dishonorable, and to look with jealous eyes upon the standing of others who are called to preside over them; that it was the folly and nonsense of the human heart for a person to be aspiring to other stations than those to which they are appointed of God for them to occupy; that it was better for individuals to magnify their respective callings, and wait patiently till God shall say to them, "Come up higher.". . .Everyone should aspire only to magnify his own office and calling.”Report of Eliza R. Snow Joseph Smith, History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7 vols. 4:603, 604, 606
